It has been an exciting and busy 2 months. A lot has been accomplished and a lot of dreams have been ignited.
After care news
We are so thankful for Intercape Bus Services for sponsoring our lunches. We are now able to feed 149 kids a balanced lunch from Monday to Friday.
Koketso Khumbula (one of our volunteers) turned 21 on 19 February. We had a surprise party for him on this day. His response was: "Thank you very much for making this day so special for me, I was thinking it was going to be like any other day’’
Youth development news
Seven of our athletes went through to compete at the district level. We are so grateful for athletic uniforms that were sponsored to the athletes (Thank you, Martin van Schalkwyk). Although we didn't win any medals, it was a lovely opportunity for the teenagers! They are looking forward for next year's season.
13th Floor News
Percy Dhudhu and Lucky Shona are doing very well this year at 13th floor. Lucky is a second year student at 13th floor. He has been chosen as a group leader this year and has added responsibilities. Percy got a leader roll which he accepted with great enthusiasm. The management is very impressed with our boys and we can't wait to go and see them when they perform at the theater. We are planning to host a career day at the high school on Friday, 26 April. We really want to broaden the horizons of the youth of Olievenhoutbosch about opportunities in the work place and motivate the youth to start dreaming again. So far we have 7 companies who will have an exhibition on this day, but we still need a lot more. Please e-mail (themba@thf.org.za) me if you want more info about this day or if you are interested to come and talk to the teenagers about a certain career.
