April and May News from THF Youth Development

Have a look at what God has been doing the last few weeks in the lives of the people of the Olievenhoutbosch community!

1. Holiday program

This holiday we had a holiday program to keep the kids of Olievenhoutbosch busy and of the streets. We sure faced some challenges, e.g. the water and the electricity was off some of the days, but nonetheless the program was very blessed. There were up to 290 kids per day and "Moeggesukkel" supplied the food and even spoiled us with some sweets.

2. Computer classes

How amazingly fast the kids learn computer skills. Most of them have mastered the basic computer skills by now, e.g. where to switch the computer on and off, the use of the mouse, open and close files etc. I.T. Fields: Watch this space for our future geniuses ;-)

3. THF Musical

What a blessed experience for both the teenagers and the audience! Most of all the musical was an experience of the amazing stories of the teenagers and what God is doing in their lives. Attached is the newspaper article about the musical. If you want to see more photo's, please go to this link:

If you attended the THF musical, please leave a comment about your experience of the musical.

4. JD Group Retail training

Currently the 100 youth which THF has identified is busy with retail training offered by the JD Group. We are so grateful for the wonderful door that opened for us. The JD Group is training young people with Grade 12 to work in retail. After the week long training, they will receive a certificate. (JD Group is a retail chain which include shops such as "Electric Express", "Incredible Connection", "Hi-Fi Corporation" etc.). Testimony: During practical training, two of our youth already got interviews due to the good impression they made on the regional manager. :-)

5. Themba: General

We are praying for more opportunities to bring work to the youth of Olievenhoutbosch. Unemployment and poverty is still one of the biggest challenges in Olievenhoutbosch. Anyone with ideas or knowledge of training opportunities, please contact me. I would love to hear from you.

We are looking forward to our next big event: the leadership camp in May. Anyone who would like to be involved with the camp can also contact me please.

Request:

We have been invited to play soccer and netball on 14 May in Centurion and need to transport 60 kids to and from the matches. We would much appreciate it if anyone can help us with transport or contribute towards renting a 60 seater bus for this day.
