Last newsletter for 2015

We would like to start this newsletter blog by saying THANK YOU VERY MUCH to every single person who have supported us during this year!! Without you our milestones and stories we are about to share here would not be possible. We want to let you know that you have added hope to someone's life by being part of THF Youth development this year.

Please send this blog address to people who you think will be interested to join us next year in making a difference in God's Kingdom.
Feeding scheme

We have been able to serve lunch to more than 250 kids for forty weeks:

Olievenhoudbosch after-care centre: 100 cooked meals per day, which amounts to 400 per a week or around 1600 meals per month. That means around 16 000 cooked meal were served to children in Olievenhoubosch this year.

Brits after-care centre: 300 meals per week, which amounts to 1 200 meals per motnh and around 12 000 meals for the year.

In total we were able to serve 28 000 lunch meals this year to kids who did not have some thing to eat after school! Halleluya!!

Blankets

With the initiative of Esli Steyn and Radio Jacaranda who partnered with us, we were able to hold a very successful blanket drive during winter this year. More than 500 people received much needed blankets, and this made a huge difference in getting through winter. Thank you Esli, Radio Jacaranda, and everyone who donated a blanket.

Leadership training

We took 14 high school learners to a camp to train them in basic leadership skills and guide them towards a closer relationship towards Jesus Christ.

Mentorship program

We mentored more than 10 young adult this year on community development through their involvement in our various projects.

Learner's Drivers licences

We managed to bless 5 of our volunteers with Learner's Drivers licences this year. For some of them they are the first in their families to obtain a learner's drivers licence. Our goal for next year is to help them obtain their driver's licenses.

Holiday program

More than 300 children attend our holiday program during the April and June/July holidays. We planned a variety of fun activities and life lessons during these programs, whilst also ensuring there tummies are fed before they go home for the day.

Helping with homework

This year we were able to help more than 250 kids with homework after school. We also mentor these children and give them love and attention.

Internship

We are very thankful to Brother International for taking our young adults for internship programs. Four of our volunteers attended their internship program this year, and they have truly grown in their professionalism and knowledge of the outside world.

Awareness of the needs in our community

Every year we host a ''tea party'' to raise funds and awareness of the work we do to the people who does not necessarily know what is going on at the less fortunate communities. This year we host our tea parties at two different venues, and more the 50 people were made aware of our work.

Outreaches

We hosted an outreach this year to the Brits community "Sonop", where people were given the opportunity to become involved for a few days with the less fortunate people of this community. Interestingly, the people who are involved in these outreaches, usually learn more about themselves and God's love than the people we are trying to reach out to. We managed to make a difference in the lives of 200 children in this community during our June/July outreach.

American missionaries

It was indeed a privilege to host three groups of American missionaries again this year, through the "Experience Mission" ministry. These Americans become a part of our lives and the work we do in the Olievenhoutbosch for a few weeks. We learn so much from them, and they in turn make an impact on the lives of our children and in the larger community through their service and unconditional love and hard work.

Craven week (Rugby)

Three of our volunteers were Chaplains at Craven Rugby Week this year. Each volunteer had a team which they mentored and supported emotionally and spiritually.

Sports chaplaincy

Well done to two of our THF workers who completed their SCZA (Sport Chaplain Zuid Afrika) training, Level Two.

Computer training

We were able to give more than 100 children basic Computer training this year. We hope to involve more kids in our Computer training classes next year.

Christmas food hampers

Thank you very much to KSM (Kerk Sonder Mure) for the two tonnes of food you have given to us to give to the needy for Christmas. We have blessed more than 40 families with wonderful hampers, and also managed to stock up on some food for our January feeding scheme.

We wold like to which you are Mary-Christmas and a happy New year!
